Rhode Island drivers more likely to get into car accidents

If drivers in Rhode Island feel like they are constantly dodging unsafe drivers and car accidents, they are not alone. The ninth annual America's Best Drivers Report by Allstate said Rhode Island has some of the worst drivers in the country. The report ranked Providence as the third worst city for safe driving. The report said that on average, drivers in the city get into a car accident every five-and-a-half years.

The Allstate report said that Providence continues to be an unsafe city to drive in and that the city's roads have not improved in the last few years. With Providence ranking third in the most dangerous cities to drive in, what other cities fared worse? According to the report, only drivers in Baltimore and Washington D.C. get into a car accident more often than drivers in Providence.

The annual report by Allstate is based on car accident claims filed in the nation's 200 largest cities. Auto accidents are defined as a collision that results in a damage claim to the car insurance company, and since Allstate covers roughly 10 percent off U.S. auto policies, the report is considered to be very accurate. The report is not influenced by car accidents caused by road construction or weather conditions. Allstate uses this data to predict which cities will have the highest average rate of car accidents.

While the report is not good news for drivers in Rhode Island, auto insurance agencies hope that it will help drivers understand the risks they face on the road and make an effort to become safer drivers.
