Intoxicated driver injures pedestrian in festival area

Fall is a great time to engage in outdoor activities. Whether you like bike riding, playing sports or just walking about, the cool weather can allow you to really enjoy the day. Many towns and cities may have special events scheduled that take advantage of the mild temperatures.

When such gatherings are in progress, it is possible that there may be heavier than usual pedestrian traffic crossing the area's streets. Therefore, motorists must be extra careful when driving near those on foot. As always, anyone who is intoxicated should stay off the road altogether. A drunk driver in proximity to pedestrians can lead to serious trouble.

Recently in Weymouth, Massachusetts, a male pedestrian was seriously injured when he was struck by a Volkswagen being operated by an alleged drunk and drugged driver. The accident happened in an area called SouthField, where a festival was going on at the time. EMS arrived at the scene and transported the pedestrian to a hospital.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 46-year-old man, was arrested by Weymouth Police and issued a variety of charges for operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs and alcohol, negligence and driving with a license that was suspended. In addition to the pedestrian, the man is also said to have struck several parked cars.

An intoxicated driver is a menace to all those unfortunate enough to cross his or her path. Such drivers are particularly dangerous to pedestrians who lack any sort of physical protection. An auto-pedestrian accident could leave a victim with life-changing injuries that could require extensive care to treat.

If you or someone in your family should ever be struck by an intoxicated or otherwise negligent driver, you could use the support and representation of a motor vehicle accident attorney. The attorney could fight to get you and your family proper compensation.
