Fatal car accidents dropped during first six months of 2013

Fatal car accidents have decreased by five percent so far this year compared to the number of fatal traffic accidents reported in the first six months of 2012, according to the National Safety Council. The NSC reported that an estimated 16,620 fatal car accidents have happened from January to June this year, compared to the 17,430 fatalities reported during the same time last year in the U.S.

The decline in fatal car accidents is good news for NSC and the public. However, the NSC said that they are not sure what factors have contributed to the decrease in fatal traffic accidents this year. The organization said they will continue to track the number of traffic fatalities in the U.S. this year to see if the trend continues for the rest of the year.

The NSC is pleased to see the number of fatal car accidents decline from last year and will continue to work on increasing safety for all drivers in the U.S.

The decline in fatal car accidents could be a sign of safer drivers and vehicles on the road. However, the NSC also reported that more people received medical attention after being in a car accident this year compared to 2012. They reported that there was a two percent increase this year in the number of people who sought medical attention for injuries caused by a car accident.

Even though fatal car accidents have declined so far this year, there are still far too many car accidents happening in the U.S. A lot of car accidents can be prevented by reducing driver errors like distractions and following traffic safety laws. All drivers should be aware of the ways they may become an unsafe driver and take steps to reduce those risks so everyone stays safe on the road.
