Rhode Island car accident prompts wrongful death claim

Rhode Island roadways can be a dangerous place for drivers. Drivers must use the utmost caution when navigating roads and could face drunk drivers, distracted drivers or speeding drivers. But the risks do not stop there, drivers also have to worry about the possibility of a state's failure to comply with safety regulations for road construction. One family is now suing Rhode Island for what they say resulted in a car accident that claimed their loved ones' lives.

Prior to the lawsuit, a terrible car accident occurred on the Claiborne Pell Bridge. Two men were driving home from work when they were struck head-on by a teenage driver. According to reports, the teen partially left his side of the road and crossed the center line, after which he hit the two men in a head-on crash. One of the men died at the scene, and the other died at the hospital soon after the accident.

According to the families of the deceased, Rhode Island has safety standards that are designed to keep drivers safe. Purportedly, the bridge did not meet those standards. The requirements for bridges in Rhode Island are that, if they are traveled by more than 20,000 vehicles daily, they must have median barriers. The family members are suing for wrongful death in a case against the Rhode Island Bridge and Turnpike Authority, the Department of Transportation and the state.

These families are obviously mourning the loss of their two loved ones. They feel that, had there been median barriers on the bridge, the two men would not have died. The financial restitution that the families could receive cannot bring their loved ones back. It could, however; lessen the burden of unexpected financial expenses that have come as a result of this tragic car accident.
