Female dies in pedestrian accident in Rhode Island

When a loved one is hit and killed by a car while out walking, the loss is heartbreaking. During this difficult time, people who are affected by the loss may experience a range of emotions, including anger, grief, confusion and sadness. A pedestrian accident in Rhode Island recently caused the death of one woman.

East Providence police report that a 53-year-old female was probably trying to cross a road near her home, when she hit by a northbound vehicle. The impact made her roll onto the hood of the vehicle. Her head connected with the windshield and then she hit the ground. The 39-year-old female driver of the vehicle called the police immediately.

Paramedics arrived and performed CPR on the victim while she was being transported to a hospital. It was in vain, however, because she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival at the hospital. There were two children in the vehicle, but according to reports, they were not injured. Police reported that speed did not seem to be a factor in the accident.

The police indicated that the driver of the vehicle would not be charged at this stage. However, the family of the person who died in the pedestrian accident retains the right to file a wrongful death claim in a Rhode Island court. No amount of money can ever replace the loved one that has been lost, but through wrongful death action, surviving family members can secure the compensation needed to cover the costs of a funeral. A successfully litigated claim will not change what happened, but it could help the woman's family to move forward.
