3 car accident in Rhode Island sends 2 to the hospital

Police in Rhode Island are still trying to figure out what caused the initial crash between two vehicles that then involved a third. At last report, authorities were not clear whether alcohol, drugs or speed could have contributed to the car accident. Therefore, details are still sketchy at this time.

Police have determined that vehicle number one, a pick-up truck, was heading north as vehicle number two, a Honda, was entering the same road. Vehicle number three, a Chevy, was headed south waiting to turn onto the same street that vehicle number two was turning from just prior to the crash. Vehicle one and vehicle two collided. Vehicle three was involved in a secondary accident.

The driver of vehicle one suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. The driver of vehicle two had to be freed from the wreckage of his vehicle by emergency personnel before being flown to an area hospital with serious injuries. The current conditions of these two drivers are not available at this time. Vehicle three's driver reportedly suffered no injuries.

Once authorities determine which driver was at fault for the accident, criminal charges might be filed against that driver depending on what the evidence shows. As the injured drivers recover from their injuries, they may benefit from knowing what their rights and responsibilities under Rhode Island law are in connection with this car accident. The party deemed responsible for the crash could face a personal injury claim from the other driver. If negligence is proven, the court may consider awarding monetary compensation that could defray the costs and other damages normally incurred as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
