Walking has benefits, but pedestrians face dangers

Even with all of the modes of transportation available, such as cars, cabs and buses, much of the time the best way to get around is under the power of one's own feet. Walking can provide good exercise, freedom from having to find a parking spot and the ability to be at one with the great outdoors. And pedestrians should be lauded, as walking is a completely carbon monoxide-free form of transportation.

But in spite of all the wonderful benefits that walking presents, pedestrians are all too often the victims of very serious accidents. There are several factors that can contribute to a pedestrian being injured, or even killed. The very definition of a pedestrian is a person who is not on or in some form of vehicle. As such, they are bereft of the physical protection a vehicle can offer.

Therefore, drivers must play their part in helping to ensure the safety of pedestrians. For example, driving on city streets or through residential areas that are likely to have foot traffic, motorists cannot afford to let their focus be taken by phone calls, texts or other distractions. If a driver lets his or her attention wander and suddenly looks up to find a pedestrian on the road ahead, it may be too late to avoid catastrophe.

If you or a member of your family should ever be injured while walking due to the acts of a distracted driver, we at the Karns Law Group may be able to provide you with legal representation to help you pursue compensation. We have experience building cases that demonstrate liability and would certainly be interested in discussing your case.
