Tripped rollovers can happen for many reasons

In the best of cases, an automobile accident will be an inconvenience that includes exchanging information with another driver, filling out some insurance forms and getting some repairs done. But there are some types of accidents that will almost certainly cause tremendous damage to a vehicle and leave occupants with serious or fatal injuries.

One of the most deadly types of car accidents is the rollover. Should a car roll on its side or to the point that its roof hits the ground, the occupants will very likely suffer severe physical trauma. The most common type of rollover is called a "tripped rollover."

In fact, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 95 percent of all rollovers are of the tripped variety. But tripped rollovers can occur for a number of reasons. The following are three types of tripped rollovers:

  • Steep slope rollover, which typically occurs when a vehicle is off-road and traveling on a steep incline and is unable to remain upright.
  • Guardrail rollover, which happens when a vehicle flips after driving up on a guardrail or other object. Typically, the vehicle will have to be traveling rapidly for this kind of rollover to occur.
  • Soft soil rollover, which occurs when a vehicle leaves the road and its wheels are unable to maintain purchase on the soil as the driver attempts to sharply turn back on course.

Sometimes a tripped rollover is due to an error on the part of the driver. However, a rollover could also occur if the driver is forced to make an evasive maneuver due to being forced off the road by another vehicle. In either case, victims in such accidents may well require medical care to treat injuries.

If you have been harmed in a tripped rollover accident and need compensation to cover your medical expenses, you may want to contact a Rhode Island car accident attorney. Utilizing the facts of your accident, the attorney could help you pursue a fair level of compensation.
