How to determine if you are disabled

If you are preparing to apply for social security disability in Rhode Island, you are likely concerned about whether or not your application will be approved. We at Karns Law Group understand how stressful this process can be, which is why we have prepared this guideline to help you determine how likely you are to be considered disabled.

According to the Social Security Administration, there are several questions you can ask yourself to decide whether or not your injuries will qualify. The first is concerning the severity of your condition. In order to be considered disabled, you must be unable to complete basic work-related activities. This means that, even if you cannot continue in your current position, if you are able to adjust your activities to perform another job, you may not be approved. Agents will consider your skills and education level in making this determination.

You can also look through a list of conditions that are generally accepted. Many disorders must be present for several months before you will be approved, but some conditions, such as Lou Gehrig’s disease, acute leukemia and pancreatic cancer, can be approved as soon as a diagnosis is made.

Your income will also affect whether or not you are determined to be disabled. Your income cannot surpass the accepted threshold in order for your claim to be approved. In 2016, that number was $1,130 per month. If you feel that you may be approved or you would like to learn more about this topic, please visit our web page.
